Hark! The Herald Angels Sing was written in 1840. The composition of this carol has many people involved including the great classical composer Felix Mendelssohn and the founding ministers of Methodism. The lyrics transformed over many years until 1840, when Charles Wesley and George Whitfield created some of the lyrics known today. An English musician named William H. Cummings took a melody from a Mendelssohn cantata to fit the lyrics.
