We Three Kings | Lyrics With Guitar Chords

We Three Kings – Christmas HQ

We Three Kings was written in 1857. This was the first Christmas carol composed in America that reached the same level of popularity of other carols like “Hark, The Herald Angel Sings” or “Silent Night.” The songwriter, John Henry Hopkins Jr, was a pastor studying at a seminary when he composed the carol. He composed both the music and the lyrics, which is unusual for composers of carols.

Guitar Chords for We Three Kings

This carol uses a harmony that’s very common in guitar music, the Am to E change. In order to play this change, you just need to keep your fingers in the same shape when moving between the A-D-G and E-A-D strings. Nearly the entire carol has changes where you don’t need to change your fingering too much, which makes it ideal for anyone who’s not quite used to changing chords yet.
