Learn to play like Andy Summers
Andy Summers achieved a modicum of success in the early 1980s as the guitarist of multi-platinum rock band The Police, where his playing was a distinctive component of the band’s sound. His innovative style has been widely imitated ever since. Here we show you some of his favorite chord types of the era, played in open string voicings. Andy Summers also occasionally plays these chord shapes as barre chords! This requires a considerable stretch across five frets. Picked arpeggios are recommended here, but we recommend experimenting with different rhythmic patterns.
