Learn to play like Izzy Stradlin

Izzy Stradlin is an American musician and songwriter. He is best known as the co-founder and former rhythm guitarist of hard rock band Guns N’ Roses, which he left at the height of their fame in 1991. When most people think of Guns n’ Roses they think of Axl Rose and Slash. Izzy’s role is often criminally overlooked, especially considering he was the principle writer of many of the band’s most famous songs. The first four measures in this chord progression are written in in the key of C major with the emphasis lying on the V degree (G major). This is what we call the Mixolydian Mode. This displacement is very common in classic rock music. From Bar 5 to 7 we modulate to the key of Bb with its first, fourth and fifth degree, before returning on the eighth bar to G major. The last eight bars consists of chords from the G major scale and provide a typical GNR chord movement often seen in their ballads.
