Be Like That by 3 Doors Down | Lyrics with Guitar Chords

American post-grunge band 3 Doors Down landed a major hit with their debut album “The Better Life”, which has sold over five million copies. The lyrics in “Be like that”, the fourth single off the same album, deal with following one’s dreams. The song features a radio-friendly mix of multi-layered acoustic guitars coupled with rock guitars and a simple, yet solid rhythm section.

The band’s frontman and songwriter Brad Arnold claims the writing process was non-linear and that the lyrics for the chorus and verses were written separately. The guitar riff you hear at the beginning was also written by him by means of trial and error. An edited version of the song was featured in the soundtrack for the movie American Pie 2.

Key of the Song: G major

Be Like That is in the guitar-friendly Key of G major, which makes the song quite simple to play and will not require as much effort as the tunes discussed in previous articles.

You will be dealing with the following chord progressions:

I – V – vi – IV is the turnaround you will be playing for both strophes and verses.
G – D – Emin – C

There is a section where you have
ii – IV – I
Amin Cmaj Gmaj

ii – IV – I – III7
Amin Cmaj Gmaj B7 Cmaj

Be Like That Chords

This tune is fairly uncomplicated to play. You can make use of chords you’re most likely acquainted with:

G – D – Em – C – Am – B7

Some guitar teachers don’t lie when they tell you that these four chords are very important, do they…

Though if you want to get as close to the original as possible, you’d have Dsus2 instead of D and Emin7 instead of Emin and Csus2 instead of Cmaj.

That’s pretty much it.
